what to expect
Before you come in for your fractional laser treatment, we ask that you remove all makeup and gently cleanse the area you’re getting treated. Although the Palomar Icon is comfortable for some patients, we recommend numbing cream for your treatment. Please be prepared to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your appointment. We’re looking forward to seeing you!
After your dermatologist or physician assistant has assessed your skin, you’ll be equipped with super stylish goggles to protect your eyes from the bright flashes from the laser. While reclining, your practitioner will calibrate the laser to your specific treatment parameters. With numbing cream, most of our patients feel little discomfort.
Because of the expertise of our dermatologists and physician assistants, our patients often tell us that our laser treatments are virtually painless.
After your laser treatment, you might be a little itchy, red or swollen in the area treated, but these side effects should subside in a few days or so. Depending on the area treated, you might also bruise. Bruising, redness, and swelling can last for several days, but they generally subside sooner. After a week or so, many of our patients notice improved skin tone and texture. Because everyone has unique skin, side effects, number of treatments, and results may vary.
After fractional laser treatment, your skin will be super sensitive to the sun. Protecting your skin is really important, especially during the first few weeks after treatment. Dr. Ciatti recommends avoiding the sun as much as you can after your appointment and protecting your skin with a broad-spectrum sunscreen. At Salonika Medspa, we offer leading broad-spectrum sunscreen products from Elta MD and Isdin.
frequently asked questions
A laser emits high-energy light that can be used to treat different skin blemishes, conditions, lesions, scars, and unwanted hair. Lasers operate at specific wavelengths of light that target pigment, blood vessels, or fluid in the skin. The heat produced in the tissue by the light helps eliminate various imperfections in the skin, like scars, or unwanted hair.
At Salonika Medspa, we have a comprehensive suite of the most revolutionary laser equipment in the medical industry today. Our dermatologists and physician assistants are highly experienced and dedicated to helping you find the right laser treatment solution for your unique skin.
Fractional laser treatment is a revolutionary laser treatment that uses a fractionated light, or light divided into microscopic beams, to target fractions of the skin. Your dermatologist or physician assistant will precisely aim microscopic beams of light to create micro-injuries in the area being treated without harming surrounding tissue. While you heal, your body will generate new collagen and elastin to help improve the elasticity, tone, texture of your skin.

The Palomar Icon intuitively combines a 1540nm fractional laser with an Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) handpiece to precisely target and treat a variety of skin conditions. With fractional laser treatment, we can encourage a more youthful you by improving your skin’s appearance, elasticity, and texture. With IPL treatment, we can treat age spots, broken capillaries, veins, and much more.
At Salonika Medspa, we’re dedicated to making sure your fractional laser treatments are equally comfortable and effective. Depending on the area, each laser pulse might feel like a snap similar to an elastic band. However, we will apply a topical numbing cream 30 minutes before your treatment so you feel almost nothing.
For your comfort and safety, the Palomar Icon also has a melanin reader and cooling system to intuitively protect your skin. With care and compassion, your dermatologist or physician assistant will ensure that your IPL treatments are as comfortable and effective as possible.
Ablative and non-ablative lasers primarily differ in how much they alter the skin’s surface.
Ablative lasers partially remove the top layer of skin, or epidermis, to encourage improved texture and tone. Non-ablative lasers, like the Palomar Icon™, involve treating the deeper layers of the skin without affecting the top layers.
At Salonika Medspa, our dermatologists and physician assistants recommend non-ablative laser treatments because they have fewer side effects and much less downtime than ablative alternatives.
At Salonika Medspa, we are just as result oriented as you are. Depending on the area treated, our dermatologists generally recommend a series of treatments, usually 2 to 4, spaced 3 to 4 weeks apart to encourage your best results. However, no laser treatment is ‘one size fits all’, and a lot of our patients see improvement in their skin’s appearance, tone and texture after a single treatment.
We also combine Fractional Laser Treatments with Intense Pulsed Light treatment to simultaneously treat signs of aging and rejuvenate the skin. Click here to learn about Intense Pulsed Light treatment.
